Antique Victorian 9 Room Butler's / Servant's Indicator Signal Box - Guildford
Sold Out
An elegant 9 room butlers indicator box.
Professionally restored and fully tested, in 100% working order. The original makers signed in gold leaf to the bottom reads "B.G.SUTHERS.Ltd. ENGINEERS. GUILDFORD. PHONE 709".
When a button in a room is pressed the corresponding flag twinkles from side to side to alert the staff which room requires assistance. You can wire it up to your doorbell and use as a front and back door bell indicator.
The hardwood case is beautifully crafted with box joints, brass screws and hinges. The gold writing is in good condition but on close inspection it does appear to have been altered at some time with horizontal lines bordering it. The rooms consist of FRONT DOOR. BACK DOOR. LOUNGE. DINING Rm - BATHROOM. and 3 BEDROOMS.
- 27cm (10 1/4") high
- 43cm (17") wide
- 8.5cm (3 1/4") deep
The ordinal red striped flags are all intact, but they do have old stains on them. The black paint is in very good condition, but there are grey lined areas where the writing has been sign written (see photo where I've used the light to highlight these), but once in situ shouldn't be detrimental to it's display.
A wonderful statement piece to instantly add authenticity to your period interior.
